Colorado Wedding Videographer: 10 Questions to Ask Before You Sign, With Straight Answers

The best way to choose a Colorado wedding videographer is to ask the same ten questions of everyone on your list: how many weddings they film that day, what happens in bad weather, how the sound is captured, what travel costs and how your film is delivered and protected.

I'm Andrew with Peak Wedding Films in Colorado Springs. Below are the questions I would ask if I were the one hiring, with my own answers so you have something to compare against.

1. How Many Weddings Do You Film That Day?

It is an easy question to overlook, and it matters more than any camera.

I film one wedding per day. Your date is either open or it is not, and I am never arriving at your ceremony from a morning wedding somewhere else. Nothing is queued behind a second wedding that same weekend.

2. Can We Watch a Full Film, Not Just a Reel?

A 60-second reel can hide a slow ceremony and thin toasts. A full film cannot.

Highlight reels are how the work gets shown publicly, but a full film is what you are actually buying. Ask on your consultation call and I will send a full-length film over.

3. How Do You Record the Vows and the Toasts?

Sound is the part of the day a still frame cannot hold. Ask every videographer how they capture the officiant, the two of you and the speeches.

If the answer is the camera's built-in microphone, keep looking. Your vows deserve to be heard clearly in your own voices.

4. What Happens If the Weather Turns?

In Colorado, this is not a hypothetical. Mountain weather turns, especially in the afternoon.

My gear is weather sealed and I adapt in real time. If the timeline needs to shift, we shift with it and keep rolling. Some of the most cinematic films I have made happened under storm skies, so a forecast does not decide whether your film gets made.

5. What Does Travel Cost, and When Do We Find Out?

A Colorado wedding can be ten minutes from home or five hours into the mountains, so get the travel number in writing before you sign.

Anywhere within about 90 minutes of Colorado Springs, Denver included, has no travel fee with Peak Wedding Films. Farther venues carry one flat fee set before you sign and never added later. You can see every travel band and what each package includes on one page.

6. Is Drone Coverage Included?

Ask whether aerial footage is part of the package or an extra line on the invoice.

Drone coverage is included in every Peak package. The land still decides where it flies, so I plan aerials only where the venue and the rules allow them.

7. How Will We Receive the Film?

A film you cannot find is a film you will not watch.

Yours arrives through a private, password-protected Vimeo link you can stream, share and download in full resolution. It opens on a phone, a laptop or a TV, so watching it takes one tap.

8. What Happens If Something Goes Wrong With the Footage?

This is an uncomfortable question, and a good videographer will answer it without flinching.

Footage is recorded and backed up on the day, then held in redundant storage for at least two years after delivery. The specific gear and backup routine for your date is something to ask about on your consultation call, and the answer goes in your contract.

9. Who Controls Where Our Film Gets Posted?

Some couples are happy to be shared. Others want the film kept entirely private.

Nothing is published without your say-so. Portfolio use is covered in your contract, and you can decline it there. Films are also cut with licensed music, so posting yours is not a copyright problem waiting to happen.

10. What If Our Date Changes?

Plans move. Ask what happens to your retainer if they do.

With Peak, your retainer transfers to a new date if I am available. If the new date is already taken, I will connect you with a trusted colleague whose work I stand behind. The rescheduling terms are in your contract from the start.

How to Use These Answers

Put every videographer's answers side by side. The right fit is usually obvious by question three or four.

Look for straight answers, not hedges. Look for someone who asks about your day as much as you ask about theirs. Every booking with me includes a pre-wedding call, so I understand your day completely before it arrives.

Quick Answers

How early should we start asking these questions? Peak season dates, June through October, tend to fill 12 to 18 months out. If your date is sooner, reach out anyway.

Does an inquiry hold our date? No. A signed contract and a retainer are what lock a date in, because the calendar only holds one wedding per day.

Do you film elopements too? Yes. An elopement gets the whole day, the same as a full wedding.

If my answers line up with what you are looking for, tell me your date and where in Colorado you are getting married, and I will check it myself.
